The starting signal for change

With a win at home against Paris, Borussia Dortmund not only put themselves in a good starting position for the second leg, but the win also confirms their participation in the Premier Class for the coming season. This ticket now implements an absolutely necessary change.

In the semi-final first leg of the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund made a good start against PSG with a lot of passion and little luck. Mats Hummels, among others, had a strong performance! Can the future do without this Hummels?

BVB fall soft! In the last few weeks and months, Dortmund have achieved something that even the most fanatical fans would not have believed possible. Borussia Dortmund are one step away from the Premier Class final at Wembley after beating Paris.

But more important than the pot this season, despite all the justified joy, is achieving the minimum goal: a premier class ticket for the upcoming season.

This ensures the club’s sporting competitiveness for the next few years. This loss of income would have been dramatic.

A premier class ticket is more important than a handle pot

A look at the numbers shows this: reaching the semi-finals earned the club 100 million euros.

There is still 20 million euros left to reach the final and win the title. This does not even include money from visitors, catering and business income. For comparison: in the Europa League, a club must advance to the semi-finals without dropping points.

For those in charge of new sporting director Lars Rikken and squad architect Sven Mislindt, the first day on the job yesterday are now rolling up their sleeves and stepping on the gas.

A much-needed surge after victory over Paris can now begin. A lot of personnel construction sites await BVB. Performance in the premier class should not overshadow this. Each position must be analyzed and questioned. Because in the main business, the Bundesliga, Dortmund are clearly lagging behind in the competition.

BVB’s shopping list is long

The team is in dire need of reinforcements. The shopping list is long. A new central defender is needed. Someone with the design to follow in Mats Hummels’ footsteps later this year or a year from now.

In addition, BVB is already actively looking for defensive midfielders – like last summer. This underfilled position has recently caused internal controversy – the key word being Edson Alvarez. The faulty planning must now be corrected. Borussia also need a striker with international quality.

Currently, Niklas Fulkrug, who has defied expectations since his move to the Ruhr region, stands out in the field. Sébastien Haller or Youssoufa Moukoko are not serious alternatives.

BVB needs players who can provide immediate help and take the team to a higher level. It has one imperative: money. Now the money goes into the coffers next year. The prospect of next year’s Club World Cup and the associated income (apparently €50 million guaranteed) is more than BVB can dig up.

BVB should take advantage of loan players

BVB should worry about two loan players, Jadon Sancho and Ian Matsen. From his move, Matsen showed how important he is. Sancho is now well enough to become the Sancho of yesteryear.

“Diamond Eye” Misslindad needs to pull something great out of the hat or open Ricken’s wallet and invest in both. The fact that both Sancho and Matsen want to stay at Dortmund is not a bad basis for negotiations.

As for the game, BVB’s premier class season is already a bit of a sensation even before the second leg kicks off in Paris. From an economic point of view, international performance (as well as other German teams) with a fifth place in the Champions League is necessary to play in the concert of big players in the next few years.
