At the same time as the international “Galaxy Unpacked event 2024” in the US, three new flagship smartphones with a lot of AI functions were presented in this country – in front of about 200 invited guests. The party that followed lasted well into the night.
Traditionally, Samsung starts the race for the best smartphone of the year. For example, while Apple fans will have to wait until September to see the new iPhone 16 models, South Korea has already launched its flagship series. On January 17th at 7:00 PM (our time) the international “Galaxy Unpacked Event 2024” took place in San Jose, California, where the Galaxy S24 series celebrated its world premiere. At the same time, selected media, influencers and business partners were able to experience the new products at the Praterstrasse Club in Vienna. About 200 guests accepted an invitation from Dario Cassari, Samsung's vice president of the mobile division for Austria and Switzerland.
“KI-Smartphones”
As expected, the presentation was all about artificial intelligence (AI). Marvin Peters, Director of Mobile Samsung Austria, developed the smartphone's latest AI features with live translation, night photography and new AI image editing tools and image search functions such as “Circle to Search”. Google. With AI expert and Vanguardist CEO Julian Wiehl he discussed the new trends in this area and the changes that artificial intelligence could bring in 2024. Afterwards, guests were able to try out the new Galaxy S24 series at interactive stations
The celebration continued into the night with music by DJ Smartex (Radio Superfly) and Pezo Fox, “Galaxy Cocktails”, Korean Mooncrust Pizza and cake art by Stolzes, rolled by “Powerjam” roller skaters.
The series again includes three models
The flagship series again consists of three models that don't differ much from the S23 series from last year: Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24. The Ultra is the first Galaxy smartphone to feature a titanium frame – the iPhone 15 Pro may have served as a model here. Samsung has integrated numerous AI features directly into its smartphones for the first time. So you don't need your own apps to use functions like simultaneous language translation during calls (works in 16 languages at launch). “Galaxy AI is built on our innovative brand heritage and deep understanding of how people use their smartphones. When it comes to the touchscreen, the Koreans rely on the “Dynamic AMOLED 2X” display in all three models with a diagonal of 6.2 inches (S24), 6.7 inches (S24+) and 6.8 inches (S24 Ultra). 120 Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ (S24 and S24+) or Quad HD+ (S24 Ultra) resolution. The Ultra again has S Pen support. Samsung wants to score points with customers with its camera equipment. The S24 Ultra features a quad camera setup with a 200-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor. The S24 and S24+ have a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom.
When it comes to the processor, Samsung is relying on either the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or its own Exynos depending on the market/region. Both chips are said to offer a significant increase in performance compared to their predecessors. The 4,000 mAh (S24), 4,900 mAh (S24+) and 5,000 mAh (S24 Ultra) batteries should ensure long-lasting performance. The S24 and S24+ can be charged up to 25 W (wired), the S24 Ultra up to 45 W. In addition, wireless charging functionality, IP68 certification (water and dust protection), 5G, fast WiFi (ax), etc. on board. Android 13 is pre-installed as the operating system, on top of which Samsung uses its own user interface.
S24 models can be pre-ordered now (see info box). The new Samsung flagships will go on sale on January 31, 2024. There are also offers with payment assurance from domestic mobile operators.
