At the moment there is a lot of excitement in Edenberg near Linz (Urfahr-Ecological District). A farmer is said to have accidentally cut down several deer in a meadow. The State Attorney’s Office is now investigating the 57-year-old man.

Drones have been flying from country to country these weeks to search for hidden fawns in grasslands and thereby save their lives. This is what a 57-year-old farmer and local politician from Helmonzat (Urfar-Ecological District) is said to have prevented. The Kronenzeitung reported this in its edition on Sunday.

A drone search was denied

When hunters wanted to look for chicks in a meadow he rented in Edenberg, he is said to have prevented this. He is said to have been chased away from the meadow when a boar approached him while he was mowing. The result: four cubs died instantly, and two cubs were so badly injured by the mower that hunters had to rescue them. The State Attorney’s Office confirms this to ORF.

“The meadow was a battlefield”

ORF Upper Austria was able to speak to the hunter who was there on Sunday afternoon. As the animal cruelty case against the farmer is still ongoing, he wants to remain unrecognized. In the interview, the hunter says he confronted the farmer while cutting. He already had a drone, but the farmer sent him off the tractor. A short time later, a neighbor and witness called him and told him that several cubs were lying dead in a mown lawn.

The study showed that the prairie is “a battlefield,” as Hunter says. A fawn whose legs had been cut off was still alive. He must retrieve it with a gun. He found another one an hour later, badly injured, on the edge of the forest, which must have been dragged away by the mother animals. The hunter must also kill this cub.

“Dead cubs can’t be looked after”

As stated in the ORF interview, the hunter cannot imagine that the farmer did not notice that many country chicks were killed by the mower. He drove the tractor near the dead animals. Police have already questioned the 57-year-old farmer and entrepreneur, according to the state prosecutor’s office. But he refused to make a statement. The investigation is still ongoing. There are reportedly several witnesses to the incident.
