“Highly doubtful”: SPÖ doubts legitimacy of S-Link referendum

The Salzburg S-Link is enriched by another chapter. The SPÖ doubts the legitimacy of the referendum. According to a report by the labor union, the survey was illegal in three districts. Rather, the referendum should be extended to the entire federal state.

Question about S-Link being illegal?

According to the SPÖ broadcast on Sunday, a legal opinion by Salzburg University professors Reinhard Glashofer and Benjamin Kniehs came to the clear conclusion that the restriction is illegal. Accordingly, citizens affected by S-connection or – if clear demarcation is not possible – the entire federal state should be surveyed. Demarcation is therefore illegal.

SPÖ club president Vincent Bulter said, “The question of the poll is very doubtful. Messe and Stieglbahn are included, although there are no plans or funding for this.” According to critics, this gives people the wrong image. According to Bulter, “Overall polling indicates political arbitrariness.”

Statement without consequences for voting

They recently said the country is likely to hold the referendum as planned Salzburg news (SN). “The vote on Sunday, November 10, will take place on a firm legal basis,” state spokesman Franz Weiser said on Friday, SN quoted him as saying. “Chamber of Labor announcements and legal opinions do not affect implementation. They only serve to calm people down.”

A month before the citizen survey, we asked people in the south of the city of Salzburg what they thought about S-Link.

Citizen survey in a month: How do people in Salzburg feel about S-Link?

S-Link – Yes or No? In a month’s time, people in the state capital Flachgaon and Tenenggaon will be able to vote in the national census. Today we were in Salzburg-Suite to catch the votes.

Government information letters about S-Link will be sent to 200,000 households in the cities of Salzburg, Flachgau and Tennengau on Monday. The city of Salzburg has also launched its own information campaign. A broad front has now formed against S-Link. In addition to the “Stop U-Bahn” initiative, the “ProNatur” initiative is forming in Flachgau, which firmly rejects the transit plan.

The vote on S-Link – the partial underground local railway extension from Salzburg main station to Hall (Tennengau) – will take place on 10 November in the city of Salzburg, Flachgau and Tennengau. About 250,000 people are eligible to vote. The question is: “Should the State of Salzburg ensure that the extension of the local railway to Hallen (S-LINK) is implemented as part of a mobility solution that includes the Stiegel and Trade Fair/Airport Railways to reduce traffic?”
