FPÖ – Hafenecker/Steger: “Austria must take a clear stand against EU punitive tariffs for electric cars!” Independent Parliamentary Club

Vienna (OTS) –

“Austria must take a clear stand against the proposed punitive tariffs for the import of electric cars into the EU,” FPÖ transport spokesperson and secretary-general NAbg demanded today. Christian Hafeneker and the Freedom Parliamentary Club’s EU Spokesperson and EU MP Petra Steiger.

“On the one hand, we will not allow the sale of new cars with combustion engines from 2035, and on the other hand, making the import of urgently needed electric cars more expensive is pure planned economy and therefore definitely rejected,” Hafeneker emphasized. “With this move, the EU will open another economic war.” – After Russia, now against China, will be mainly affected by punitive tariffs,” warned Steiger.

“If the EU actually takes this completely wrong decision, it will also work against the interests of the German auto industry, which also warns of a global trade conflict,” Steiger continued. “Additionally, consumers will have to foot the bill again. On the one hand, the EU is pushing them towards electric cars, but on the other hand, these are being manufactured at artificially high prices,” criticized Hafenecker.
