A 1–1 draw in the semi-final second leg at FC Bruges was enough to advance the Serie A club to the final. The winner of the Olympiakos Braeus clash against Aston Villa awaits in Athens.
Italy’s leading football club Fiorentina has reached the final of the UEFA Conference League for the second time in a row. In the semi-final second leg at FC Bruges on Wednesday, Fiorentina drew 1-1 (0-1) in Belgium while the Violets from Tuscany won the first leg 3-2. The final in Athens (AEK Arena) on May 29th awaits Olympiakos Praias or Aston Villa, who will play on Thursday (9pm).
The Greeks won the first leg 4-2 in England. At the Jan Breydelstadion in Bruges, the hosts took the lead in the 20th minute through Hans Vanaken. A cross from the captain landed in the corner after Fiorentina’s goalkeeper Pietro Terraciano was decisively annoyed by Maxime de Kuyper. But the ninth-placed Serie A side celebrated with Lucas Beltran’s penalty in the 85th minute.
Earlier, Nicolás Gonzalez and Beltran (both 23′) and Cristiano Bragi’s free kick on the crossbar (74′) and Christian Kwame’s (75′) header missed some high-quality chances for coach Vincenzo Italiano’s side. In last season’s final, Fiorentina lost 1-2 against leading English club West Ham United.
