Thunderstorms hit Greater Cross at around 9pm, minutes after the start of the European Championship final between Spain and England. The state capital was lashed by heavy rains, storms and hail. However, the northern part of Cross was affected again. The big public spectacle at Karmeliterplatz had to be canceled and the square temporarily cleared.
The A9 is closed again near Bösebach
Especially Gratkorn, Bösebach and Deutschfeistritz had heavy rain and storms. Near Bösebach, another landslide spilled onto the Pyhrnautobahn (A9). According to Asfinac, two gradients have begun to move here. Traffic will be diverted via S6 and S35. It has been decided that the southbound lane will be open from 11am on Monday. Asfinac said the second lane could be used again on Tuesday evening.
One person fell into the stream while taking photos
Thunderstorms in Graz-Mariatrost on Sunday evening caused dangerous conditions. While taking photographs during a storm, one slips and falls into the flooded Mariatroster stream. According to police, he alerted the fire department on his cell phone, who rescued him from the raging current. The man was taken to hospital as a precaution and is believed to have suffered bruising to his skin, police said Monday morning.

The Cross Fire Department announced Monday morning that the main task was to evacuate flooded basements and clear broken branches from streets.
The fire department also responded to the storms in the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district on Sunday. The hotspot here is primarily the area around Altenberg. Due to the heavy rain, there were blockages in the Lombach area in the center of the city. In western Styria, fire brigades from the Voitzberg and Deutschlandsberg districts were also dispatched to deal with the severe weather.
The cleanup work was supported with two dredges from local excavation companies. The Altenberg Volunteer Fire Department was on duty with 27 firefighters and three vehicles. According to the Severe Weather Center, a total of 3,000 lightning strikes were recorded in Styria on Sunday.
