The last chance to do this is the new exhibition at the Wiener Stadthalle from October 9, 2024.
50 years of tennis in Vienna! From October 19 to 27, 2024, the special anniversary will be celebrated as part of the Erste Bank Open in the Wiener Stadthall. Under the title “Champions of Vienna”, there is plenty of activity surrounding the ATP 500 tournament. One of these is the “Official Tennis Experience”, which will be staged from October 9 to November 3, 2024 in Studio F of the Wiener Stadthall. Heroes of the past 50 years are being celebrated. The bridge between the present and the future is built using individual items such as clubs and clothing and exclusive merchandise. Additionally, ten of Thomas Muster’s trophies, including the 1995 French Open, are on display for the first and last time – and will be auctioned off for a good cause.
Trophy auction via “Aurena” from 8th October
On June 11, 1995, Muster made Austrian sports history by becoming the first Austrian to win a Grand Slam at the French Open in Paris. During his career, Styrian won a total of 44 ATP singles titles and was the first and only Austrian to be ranked number one in the world tennis rankings. 13 years after his final stint at the Erste Bank Open in 2011, he decided to auction off ten winners’ trophies for a good cause: from the French Open in 1995, the world number one. His eight ATP Masters Championship wins during that time.
The trophies will be auctioned via the online auction platform “Arena” (www.aurena.at), which waives the usual fee and bypasses all ten cups. Bidding begins on October 8, and the final amount collected will be handed over following the Ö3 Christmas Miracle, where the money will go to the “Light in the Dunkel” emergency aid fund, benefiting families in need.
Straka: Tournament “Unique All-round Experience for Fans”
Before the trophies go to their new owners, admire them up close – for the first and last time – in the “Official Tennis Experience” at the Wiener Stadthall. The piece will run from October 9th to November 3rd in Studio F at the Wiener Stadthalle before the start of the Erste Bank Open (October 19th to 27th, 2024). In the “Official Tennis Experience”, in addition to Muster’s trophies, rare items from 50 years of tennis in Vienna are on display, Dominic Thiem and other Austrian tennis heroes are celebrated, and interactive journeys through time are offered with exclusive insights and special merchandise collections. Using VR glasses, visitors can face various challenges that represent the connection between past, present and future.
“The Erste Bank Open needs to be even wider this year and accessible to even more people. Under the subline ‘Champions of Vienna’ we are combining many aspects to make the tournament a unique all-round experience for fans,” said tournament director Hervik Straka. ‘ Special attention is paid to the outstanding careers of Thomas Muster and Dominic Thiem. It is also unusual for Tom to auction off ten of his trophies by making them available for you to touch. This is the first and probably only chance to see these trophies. We look forward to the unforgettable highlights and a look back at 50 years of world-class tennis in Vienna.
