Two children buried near the cross, one dead

A mother was playing with her four children in the forest when the earth came loose. Two children were buried. Any help came too late for the five-year-old boy. The other child was taken to hospital with injuries.

In St Marine, east of the state capital of Cross, the children were playing in the forest when the accident occurred. Early on there was talk of a landslide, “Klein Seidung” writes about the earth in a funnel-shaped sand pit loosened by heavy rains. Two of the four children who traveled together were buried. A five-year-old boy was rescued dead. Another child was hospitalized with injuries. The other two children were unharmed.

The mother-of-two was in the forest with two others, possibly because of the rains that had fallen a few days ago, loosening the earth’s mass.

The crash site is in a forest in Pleisdorfberg, southwest of St. Marine, near Graz. Earth masses are said to have left around 5 p.m. No further details or information on the identity of the victims were initially available. According to police, a crisis intervention team was deployed to attend to relatives. Around a hundred emergency services were on site during the rescue and recovery operations, as well as at least one rescue helicopter and one police service dog. A police official said that they provided valuable help in locating the buried child.

The slopes started moving due to heavy rains

In Styria, heavy rain since last week has soaked slopes and collapsed in dozens of places. No people have been affected so far. The rain eased on Wednesday, but there was no quick end to the bad weather in the evening. In many places, the slopes have already started moving on their own. Authorities have been warning for several days to exercise extreme caution when spending time outdoors, especially near bodies of water. (APA/Red.)
