Gaza Strip: About 100 aid deliveries by sea

According to the United Nations, 97 trucks of aid arrived via a temporary ship built by the US military off the coast of the Gaza Strip, which became operational a week ago. Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said the situation had stabilized “after a calm start”. Meanwhile, Egypt agreed to open the key Kerem Shalom border crossing for aid deliveries.

In the early days of floating shipping, people robbed trucks on their way to warehouses, Dujarric explained. US President Joe Biden announced the construction of the ship in March. With their help, urgently needed relief supplies for the people of Gaza will be brought to the coast via the sea route.

Egypt agreed yesterday to open the key Kerem Shalom border crossing in the southern Gaza Strip for the delivery of humanitarian aid and fuel. The Egyptian side reported that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi acknowledged this in a conversation with his American counterpart Joe Biden. The White House said Biden welcomed the commitment to “temporarily” allow the delivery of UN-provided humanitarian aid across the border.
