In Senegal's presidential election, opposition candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye had a clear lead within hours of voting. The West African country of about 18 million people is going to the polls. It is about the succession of Macky Chall who has been ruling since 2012. If no one gets more than 50 percent of the votes in the first round, a new election will be held. A total of 19 candidates contested.
A week-long political crisis
A week before the election there was a political crisis.
