Schenck Process acquires Screenex

Darmstadt, Germany -- Schenck Process is pleased to announce agreement on the acquisition of Screenex Pty Ltd ("Screenex") of Australia from the Locker Group. Serving both the pre and after sales markets, this acquisition further strengthens the position of Schenck Process as a global supplier of solutions throughout the process industries.

Founded in 1983, Screenex is a leading manufacturer and supplier of screening products and solutions used in vibratory screening equipment. Screenex achieved its leading position through the focused application of technology, innovation and design based on many years of servicing the mining and heavy industries.

Dr Jochen Weyrauch, President & CEO Schenck Process, commented: "We warmly welcome Screenex into the Schenck Process Group. The combined product offering now enables customers to purchase both their capital equipment vibratory screening machines and wear parts from one source. Operating in often the harshest of environments in the mining and heavy industries, Schenck Process and Screenex share the same business philosophy of optimizing customers' processes and to ensure them in the long term through excellent after sales service".

"Screenex is excited about joining Schenck Process, and is enthusiastic about the opportunities it brings. Screenex has led the Australasian market based on its product development and customer service, and Schenck Process offers the opportunity to expand in conjunction with a world market leader", comments Jeff Zubovich, Managing Director of Screenex.

Ed Sill, Chief Executive Officer of the Locker Group expressed: "We wish Jeff and his team the very best in their future endeavors. We believe that Schenck Process is a great home for Screenex and the combination of the two businesses will further add to their ability to service the market."

Flexicon all stainless Sanitary Bulk Bag Filler

BETHLEHEM, PA -- A new Flexicon bulk bag filler features all-stainless construction finished to sanitary standards, and a pivot-down fill head that enables the operator to connect empty bags at floor level and resume filling operations rapidly.

The patented filler, trademarked "Swing-Down," simultaneously lowers and pivots the fill head, stopping it in a vertically oriented position that places the bag inlet spout inflatable connection, inflator button, and four bag loop latches within reach of an operator standing on the plant floor.

"The new design significantly increases the safety and speed of connecting bulk bags by bringing the fill head to the operator in a vertical position at floor level," says David Boger, vice president sales and marketing, explaining that the connection points of a conventional filler are beyond the reach of most operators, even when bags as short as 4 ft (1220 mm) are being filled.

The new design reportedly eliminates the danger of stepping onto and over roller conveyors to access rear bag hooks and spout connection collars, and of standing on the conveyor and bending over with head and arms inserted beneath operational fill head components to pull bag spouts upward over inflatable collars while reaching for bag inflator buttons.

A remote console or wall-mounted panel houses controls to raise and pivot the fill head into a locked, horizontal "fill position," automatically inflate the bag to remove creases, open a flow control valve or start a feed device, and stop the flow of material once a preset fill weight has been gained. Optional vibratory decks de-aerate and densify material in the bag at preset set points to create a solid, stable bag, ready for shipment.

Once bags are filled, the controller deflates the spout connection collar, releases the loop latches, and raises the fill head to fully disengage the spout, enabling the bag to exit the filler automatically on an optional roller conveyor.

A patented mechanism automatically resets the latch after releasing the bag loops, and re-positions it as the fill head pivots into a vertical position, enabling the latch to receive bag loops inserted by an operator and to re-latch automatically. The sanitary filler is intended for food, dairy and pharmaceutical applications requiring rapid, thorough wash down, as well as for chemical applications in which cross-contamination is a concern.

The company also manufactures Twin-Centerpost bulk bag fillers, rear post bulk bag fillers, flexible screw conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, bulk bag unloaders, bulk bag conditioners, bag dump stations, drum dumpers, weigh batching and blending systems, and engineered plant-wide bulk handling systems with automated controls.

Help Forum : Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Tolkinen needs help with stacking oats:

I am hoping one of you experts can help me with calculating how many standard Jersey Barriers I need to stack and store 1186 tons of oats.

I will arrange the barriers in a circle. We will stack the oats into Jersey Barrier circular area with a conveyor. Since the barriers come in different heights, let's figure it for a 42" high barrier.

So I need to calculate the circumference, then I can figure out how many I will need if the barriers are 8 foot or 10 foot long or whatever length they are supplied in.  (to post reply, click here)

Dr. Campbell needs help with flow and shear calcs:

solid_dispensing.jpgI would really appreciate it if someone could help me by pointing me in the right direction. I wish to know how to calculating the shear stress / rate and flow dynamics of a conical hopper with a rotary screw to feed.

These systems are used on our high throughput robotic synthesis and formulation platforms and I am trying to expand our predictive dispensing optimization software for liquids, viscous liquids and solids. (see attached photo)

If someone could be so kind to give us a reference to the correct testing / measurement method and equations for calculation it could really help me out as flow dynamics is not my strong point.  (to post reply, click here)
