class by Joe Marinelli is available in the Online Training
Center.

the bulk materials handling professional. At the Training
Center you can learn about the latest developments and
technology from leading industry experts - on your own
schedule. Take our online classes 24/7, from anywhere in the
world."Travel less
- Learn more"
This second lecture in the
Solids Flow Series will further develop the topics of flow
problems, their effects, and flow patterns discussed during
Lecture 1. The design principles required to ensure reliable
flow from your bins, hoppers, and feeders will covered
extensively.
Topics covered in this
lecture include the ASTM standard for measuring bulk solids
flow properties, using the Jenike Shear Tester. This device
allows the user to determine material wall friction
properties as well as its cohesive strength. Wall friction
tests yielding the angle of wall friction, leads to
determination of hopper angles required to ensure flow along
the walls, which is mass flow.
Additionally, measurement of
a bulk solid’s cohesive strength is illustrated. Once your
material’s cohesive strength is determined, you will learn
how to calculate hopper opening sizes required to prevent
arching.
Lecture includes downloadable
class notes and a self administered quiz with answer sheet.
The three-day subscription allows you to watch and review
this video class as many times as you need. All for only
$49, payable via credit card online.
A new class, Lecture 3 of the
Solids Flow Series will be available online May 9th.

consultancy offer lectures for the bulk materials handling
and processing professional? Contact us about including your

Next Generation of Standard
Screw Conveyor Seals
Georgetown,
ME -- MECO, long known for its custom shaft seals,
introduces a new generation of high-performing
standard-sized seals for screw conveyors and similar
equipment: the HB model.
HB
model seals have many of the design features used in MECO’s
famous custom shaft seals, but will be in stock as of summer
2009 in five CEMA and seven metric shaft sizes: from 1-1/2"
to 3-7/16" and from 40mm to 90mm.
HB
seals are designed to perform under 90% of the typical
operating conditions associated with screw conveyors or
scrolls. This includes food-grade applications, temperatures
up to 500°F (260°C), abrasive products and vertical or
inclined conveyors. The HB accommodates up to 1/4" (6mm) of
shaft run-out.
High
temperatures, speed or pressures, shaft run-out and abrasive
products all pose critical challenges for waste pack
housings and other seals. MECO has traditionally met these
challenges with its custom seal designs; now with standard
HB series seals, MECO will have solutions in stock,
manufactured to the same exacting standards at an economical
price.

Particulate Sensors Protect
Blowers, Turbines, Pumps
Beverly,
MA -- FilterSense particulate sensors are ideal solutions
for protecting blower, turbines and vacuum pumps in powder
conveying, gas processing and heat recovery applications.
Rugged, sensitive and virtually
maintenance free, the sensors are design to prevent costly
unforeseen down time and equipment repairs with reliable
real time protection. The sensors are said to be widely used
in the fly ash conveying industry to reliably detect
abrasive coal dust where traditional optical and
triboelectric monitors have been unsuccessful.
Additional applications include
turbine protection in top gas recovery at steel plants and
detecting condensates in gas processing applications.
Sensor communications include
4-20mA, Modbus and Ethernet while a display and alarm relay
contacts provide local interface.
