- Learn more"
In Lecture Three of the
Solids Flow Series, Joe Marinelli describes and discusses
the effectiveness of both volumetric and gravimetric feeding
devices. The topics covered in this lecture include
volumetric feeders which discharge a volume of material per
unit time.
The key to reliable feeder
design is to make sure that the feeder is capable of
discharging your product uniformly over the entire outlet
cross-sectional area. The type volumetric feeders detailed
are screws, belts, and rotary valves. Additionally, louvered
feeders and the circle feeder are discussed.
The information regarding
gravimetric feeders concentrates on systems required to
provide weighments of product passing through the devices.
Weigh belt feeders are discussed along with what is
considered the state of the art today, loss-in-weight
feeders. Gain-in-weight feeders which can be as simple as a
container on a scale are described along with their
limitations.
Lecture includes downloadable
class notes and a self administered quiz with answer sheet.
The three-day subscription allows you to watch and review
this video class as many times as you need. All for only a
budget-friendly $39 per class, payable via credit card
online. Click here for more information:

Zeppelin acquires Reimelt
Henschel
Friedrichshafen,
Germany -- With effect from January 1st, 2009 Zeppelin Silos
& Systems GmbH, the headquarters of the Industry Sector
within the Zeppelin Group, has taken over 100 percent of
Reimelt Henschel GmbH (Rodermark near Frankfurt) from MBB
Industries AG (Berlin) – subject to the approval of the
Takeover Panel.
Both
companies are operating in the processing of bulk solids.
Zeppelin’s focus lies on the plastics producer and rubber
industries whereas Reimelt Henschel is concentrating on the
food, pharmaceutical and plastics processing industries.
Reimelt Henschel has a leading role in its business
segments. This biggest acquisition in the history of the
Zeppelin Industry Sector opens thus new markets and
perspective growth potential, says Ernst Susanek, CEO of the
Zeppelin Group.
Reimelt Henschel GmbH generated in 2008 sales of 104 Million
Euro and employs 560 people. With the integration of Reimelt
Henschel the Zeppelin Industry Sector has now over 1 200
employees and 300 Million Euro business volume.
“This
acquisition opens totally new perspectives to Zeppelin – and
this just in our core competence field of bulk solids
handling”, comments Peter Gerstmann, CEO of Zeppelin Silos &
Systems GmbH.
“Moreover, we have acquired another sustainable pillar which
is more independent from our so far main industries, the
plastics producer and plastics processor industries, and
therefore less affected by their economic situation.”
Ideal
complement
The
decisive factor for the acquisition in the context of
Zeppelin’s long-term growth strategy was the overlap of both
companies with regards to technology. Like Zeppelin Reimelt
Henschel is engineering-oriented and implements similar
technologies in its plants. The company must benefit from
these synergies in the future. On the product side the only
overlap is in the field of PVC-processing. The competences
in plant design and mixer technology however are
complementing one another perfectly.
With
regards to company structures and global presence the
business models of both companies are also a perfect match
having an international network for the support of the
global markets.
“The
common presence in the markets and the mutual support in the
handling of projects will strengthen the companies’ common
position and business processes will become more efficient”,
adds Gerstmann.
The
acquisition of Reimelt Henschel is a big milestone in
Zeppelin’s long-term strategy of solid growth.
“The
timing may of course be surprising since the global economic
crisis does not spare us,” says Peter Gerstmann.
“Nevertheless times of crisis offer opportunities and
Zeppelin has the strength to make use of them!”

Volkmann "Gentle Tablet"
Conveying System
Hainesport,
NJ -- Volkmann is pleased to announce the introduction of a
new conveying line specifically for the vacuum conveying of
tablets without damage. In response to the increasing
customer need to load filling machines with capsules and
tablets, and working closely in conjunction with leading
users, Volkmann has designed a variety of solutions for the
unloading of tablets and capsules from drums, gaylords and
boxes, with or without poly liners. Systems range from top
down unloading, to ‘open and tip’ and on to IBC discharge
interface.
At the recent Interphex Show in
New York, as well as the Achema Show in Frankfurt,
demonstrations took place conveying sugar coated chocolate
candies (essentially tablets) in one of the new conveyors.
Although candy transfer is one of the applications, it is
not merely candy that we can transfer; successful solutions
for the transport of tablets, empty and filled capsules,
dragees etc. are all available in true cGMP designs.
Volkmann conveyors and handling
systems transfer product to presses, bottle fillers and
other packaging or process equipment, automatically within a
vacuum air stream. The key to the system is our integrated
energy trap that reduces the kinetic energy associated with
transfer/impact damage. A further enhancement adds the
ability to de-dust the tablets within the vacuum conveyor
increasing overall product quality and productivity.
Additionally, customers require
the ability to move units from line to line to suit demand.
In response, Volkmann has further refined and introduced a
new range of Stationary and Mobile Hoists. These hoists and
pneumatic lifts allow easy docking of vacuum conveyors to
all process machines and bins. New models now offer
pneumatic actuators to rotate the vacuum conveyor back and
forth above, and on top, of the machine to be loaded. This
is particularly useful when considering cleaning
requirements.
The hoists are hygienically
designed to allow installation within GMP areas. They
feature fast operation and are user friendly in operation.
Systems can be customized to fit into limited spaces, with
individual lifting heights and movement, can include
additional second stage safety filters for the vacuum
conveyor, and can be either stationary or mobile.

Vac-U-Max : Pulse-Jet Filter
Cleaning Vacuums
Belleville,
NJ -- The OSHA National Emphasis Program for Combustible
Dusts, initially released in October 2007 and re-issued for
emphasis and increased enforcement in March 2008, has
generated many inquiries about suitability of Vac-U-Max
Industrial Vacuum Cleaning Systems for use in Class II,
Division 2 environments.
Vac-U-Max compressed-air powered
vacuums, Models 40008, 40012, and 40013, are the first-line
offerings for Class II, Division 2 environments due to their
bumper-to-bumper grounded and bonded design and their
reasonable cost and availability. These vacuums meet the
NFPA 77 requirements for grounding and bonding. These
vacuums also meet the definition of an “intrinsically-safe
system”. Vac-U-Max air-powered vacuums do not use
electricity and do not generate any heat from operation.
The VAC-U-MAX 40008, 40012, and
40013 air vacs are a “system” and they include the vacuum
cover, drum, dolly, vacuum hose and cleaning tools,
compressed air hose with quick-disconnect fittings, and
polybag drum liners. There are no components that are
supplied by the customer and we are therefore able to offer
a suitable-for-service certification in a Class II, Division
2 environment.
The specific static control
components of this family of vacuums are:
• Metal vacuum cleaning tools and static-dissipative vacuum
hose.
• Stainless steel anti-sparking inlet.
• Static-conductive dust filter.
• Ground strap across gasket between air vacuum cover and
drum.
• Drum dolly with static-conductive casters.
• Ground wire connection between air vac cover and drum
dolly.
• Static-conductive compressed air hose with metal
quick-disconnect fittings.
• Static-conductive polybags liners for collection of
combustible dusts inside the drum.
If the compressed air piping
network in the facility is grounded (as it should be), then
the Vac-U-Max vacuum will be grounded automatically,
eliminating operator error due to failure to connect
separate ground wires.
