FLSmidth acquires EEL India Limited

Copenhagen, Denmark -- FLSmidth has today signed an agreement to acquire EEL India Limited, which is India's market leading manufacturer in the field of cement material handling and bagging equipment. The deal is subject to approval by the relevant authorities.

EEL India Limited’s product range includes rotary packers for bag packing and bag loading systems, silo feeding and extraction systems, bulk loading systems as well as rotary & stationary big bag filling systems for the cement and related industries.

It has three manufacturing facilities close to New Delhi and employs 225 people on a permanent basis as well as a large number of contractual employees. The annual turnover is 200m DKK (Rs. 2000m).

The acquisition of EEL India Limited will support the similar business of FLSmidth’s larger product company Ventomatic, Italy, which is successfully expanding globally and therefore requires additional production capacity. FLSmidth's strong position in the global cement industry will enable EEL India Limited to grow its activities considerably on the international cement market.

“We are continuously developing FLSmidth’s strong position on the very promising Indian market. Indian cement consumption is continuing to grow even during the current financial crisis, and India is now the world's second largest market for packed cement. This agreement further supports our focus on increased sourcing from cost-competitive countries for international projects,” Group CEO Jorgen Huno Rasmussen comments.

EEL was incorporated in 1988 as a private limited company. In 1996, the company was converted into a public limited company under the name of EEL India Limited.

OSHA : Rulemaking on Combustible Dust Hazards

Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is initiating a comprehensive rulemaking on combustible dust.

OSHA will issue an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and convene related stakeholder meetings to evaluate possible regulatory methods, and request data and comments on issues related to combustible dust such as hazard recognition, assessment, communication, defining combustible dust and other concerns.

Since 1980, more than 130 workers have been killed and more than 780 injured in combustible dust explosions. These include 14 people who were killed in a dust explosion Feb. 7, 2008, at an Imperial Sugar Co. plant in Georgia and three workers who were burned in April 2009 in an Illinois pet food plant dust explosion.

“Over the years, combustible dust explosions have caused many deaths and devastating injuries that could have been prevented,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. “OSHA is reinvigorating the regulatory process to ensure workers receive the protection they need while also ensuring that employers have the tools needed to make their workplaces safer.”

Combustible dusts are solids finely ground into fine particles, fibers, chips, chunks or flakes that can cause a fire or explosion when suspended in air under certain conditions. Types of dusts include metal (aluminum and magnesium), wood, plastic or rubber, coal, flour, sugar and paper, among others.

In 2006, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) recommended that OSHA issue a combustible dust standard. OSHA received additional support for a combustible dust standard from the CSB during a congressional hearing in 2008 when the board said a new standard, combined with enforcement and education, could save workers’ lives.

Elcan’s Kroosh SXE improves Profitability

Mamaroneck, NY -- Elcan Industries continues to assist customers in solving their screening problems with the newly engineered Kroosh SXE line of vibratory screeners for separation of problematic powder materials.

Main applications include safety screening and sizing classification of ‘difficult-to-screen’ powder materials, typically in the range between 20 and 500 microns. Among products: metal powders such as tungsten, tungsten carbide, tungsten oxide, nickel, cobalt, ferrous and non-ferrous powders, fused and precipitated silica powder, limestone, graphite, pharmaceutical and chemical powders, coating pigments, etc. Screeners have single or double-deck design with active sieve area of each deck equal to 0.25, 0.55 or 0.95 sq.m.

Wet or dry applications

SXE Screeners operate in multi-frequency vibratory-impact modes. Due to high level of normal acceleration applied to the meshes, new screeners provide uninterrupted self-cleaning of sieves, fluidization and stirring of powder, also de-agglomeration of powder clusters. It results in higher screening capacity, better separation and more undersize yield, as compared to traditional and ultrasonic screeners.

Kroosh units are designed for use of non-tensioned working meshes. Screeners offer simple and cost-saving on-site sieve replacement with usage of pieces of nylon, polyester or metal fine meshes which simply cut-off from a roll. This feature eliminates the costs and problems that are usually associated with re-tensioning of conventional and ultrasonic fine screens.

Kroosh systems are simple, easy to use, rugged mechanical devices that provide low cost maintenance and yield improvements. Unlike ultrasonic or conventional separators, the screeners do not contain electronic or pneumatic parts. Patented powerful de-blinding system is activated from energy of vibrator motors.

The company also offers unique rectangular multi-frequency screeners for sizing of humid sticky bulk materials and dense slurry.

Help Forum : Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Gadiraju needs an auger for feeding sticky powders

Can any one suggest a suitable auger design to fill a non-free flowing powder which is sticky through vertical fillers?

The auger is run using a servo motor. The powder sticks to the auger due to its adhesive nature and has to be cleaned or the motor's count changed so as to fill the required quantity.

Kindly suggest a way to avoid wastage of the product and maintain a steady filling rate.  (To post a reply, click here)
