Veyance to acquire National Belt Service
BIRMINGHAM,
AL -- For the second time this year, Veyance Technologies,
Inc., is broadening its conveyor belt installation, splice
and repair service footprint to support coal producers. The
world’s No. 1 conveyor belt maker and exclusive manufacturer
and marketer of Goodyear Engineered Products has signed an
agreement to purchase the assets of National Belt Service,
or NBS, based in Bessemer, AL, with additional operations in
Wheeling and Charleston, WV, and Atlanta, GA.
Considered to be one of the
leading U.S. conveyor belt service providers, NBS employs
about 75 associates and has annual revenue approaching $20
million. “Our expanding presence in services helps us
provide our distributors and their customers with
value-added support,” said Bret Hall, Veyance’s general
manager of industrial services. “This acquisition gives us a
more comprehensive conveyor belt solution for end users.”
According to Hall, Veyance will
have the ability to provide services throughout the United
States and Canada following the acquisition. In February,
Veyance purchased Monk Mining Supply, a coal mining conveyor
belt service company based in Tazewell, VA. He said NBS,
like Monk Mining, is a recognized and respected name in the
industry. NBS provides Veyance with installation, splicing,
monitoring, repair, on-site training and troubleshooting
capabilities.
Veyance’s growth in the coal
mining service industry complements its Goodyear branded
conveyor belt and splice kit lineup. Involvement in more
facets of conveyor systems gives the company additional
expertise that accelerates its product development and
technology, said Hall.
“Our direct link to belt
installations and repairs also strengthens a mine’s
preventive maintenance program, which can improve its
production schedule,” he added. Hall stressed that Veyance's
entry into conveyor belt services for coal mines is
complementing its existing network of authorized
distributors. “Our distributors are the core of our
marketing strategy and that won’t change”
He explained that linking NBS
services to Goodyear-branded belt sales gives distributors a
comprehensive package for mine operations. “The support that
they can provide to their coal mine customers expands as we
grow our service offerings.”
NBS has operated for more than 17
years. Current owners Billy Sibley, John Henley and Ray
Gilker will remain with the organization to ensure
consistency of customer support. The NBS acquisition will
expand Veyance’s coal mining industry support that began in
1913 with the production of the first Goodyear-branded
conveyor belt. In addition to NBS and Monk, Veyance recently
acquired a Georgia conveyor belt fabric manufacturer,
renaming it Specialty Fabrics & Converting, and formed the
joint venture Shandong Aneng Conveyor Belt & Rubber Co. that
has become China’s leading manufacturer of conveyor belts.
In April, Veyance began
construction of an $18 million expansion at its flagship
conveyor belt plant at Marysville, Ohio, to add new process
technology and equipment for heavy-duty conveyor belts.
Veyance Technologies has 35 manufacturing facilities
worldwide and employs 9,000 associates. Along with conveyor
belts, Veyance manufactures and markets Goodyear-branded
industrial and automotive products, including power
transmission belts, hose, hydraulics, rubber track, air
springs and tensioners, as well as metal sprockets, fittings
and couplings.

New : Maxima+ Series Rotary
Level Indicators
Lincoln,
NE -- BinMaster, a leading manufacturer of industrial level
control products, introduced the new Maxima+ Series of
genuine fail-safe rotary level indicators. Maxima+ level
controls offer a highly-sophisticated ability to
continuously self-diagnose and, in the event of failure,
give an immediate warning with an instantaneous corrective
response.
Today’s users of level controls are demanding an increased
level of performance. If there is an unexpected unit failure
or power loss, for example, users want the system to manage
itself to reduce or eliminate losses of time and money. The
Maxima+ series was designed for integration into process
control systems, with reliable, super-smart circuitry that
allows both materials level monitoring and automatic control
of the process system. Added flexibility provided by a
Maxima+ level control when designing a process control
system gives users maximum protection and cost savings.
In
addition to automatic self-diagnosis, the supervisory
circuit of the Maxima+ sends a signal to an external LED,
which indicates the sensor’s status, giving a quick visual
monitoring of paddle rotation, covered condition or fault
condition. A pulse status relay is also provided for remote
status monitoring.
Maxima+ controls have few moving parts, with simple and
dependable operation. When material reaches the paddle,
resistance causes the motor to “de-energize.” A relay
changes status and automatically shuts off process systems.
When levels drop below the paddle, the motor energizes and
the paddles start rotating. The relay changes status again
and automatically starts up process systems. The Maxima+
series is designed for controlling dry bulk material storage
and flow. Typical applications include feed, cement, grain,
plastic, aggregates and wood products.

IEDCO Expands Lift Product Line
Turnersville,
NJ -- When handling IBC’s it is often necessary to
elevate and position the container above a process.
Accomplishing this with forklifts or overhead cranes can
be inconvenient, unsafe and unsanitary.
To deal with these kinds of
installations, IEDCO, along with strategic alliance
partner Essex-Rise, has developed a line of "column
lifts" which permit the handling of IBC’s in an easy,
safe and precise fashion.
The IEDCO IBC Column Lift is
designed to be stationarily mounted on a level floor and
supported from a bearing support at the top. The
Column Lift is completely electrically powered and
designed to accurately lift and swivel.
The completely electric
design makes the machine more reliable, trouble-free and
smoother operating than either hydraulic or
pneumatically powered units. There is no leakage,
no motion creep and far less maintenance. Material
lifts, drum inverters and other custom lifting systems
are also available:

Mr. Vandenbroeck wants help with
leaking seals:
We're currently struggling
with leaking seals on many of our rotary feeders. These
feeders are used in a dilute conveying system for LDPE
pellets (up to around 0.7barg positive pressure).
The packing type seals on our
national conveyors often leak fines, fortunately not
resulting in bearing damage, but it does create an
housekeeping problem. Our Waeschle type rotary feeders on
the other hand also suffer sealing problems (lip seals in
this case), eventually resulting in bearing failure. The
manufacturer now advises replacement every 7000 running
hours (every 2 years).
Considering the number of
rotary feeders in use, this becomes a very labor intensive
job. Is there anyone who knows a good solution for this
problem?

Mr. Giroux needs help with
effects of granulometry:
I'm interested in knowing if
there is a general rule for flow in a bin relatively to
granulometry of material.
For example, for given bins,
actual material (cryolite) has a very high content in fines.
We want to modify the process upstream of the bin to get
much coarser material but want to avoid modifying the bins.
Is there a general rule that
says that coarser material will flow more easily or will
tend to bridge more easily?
