Intergraph
unveils SmartPlant 3D Materials Handling Ed.
HUNTSVILLE,
AL -- Intergraph has introduced the newest solution of its
SmartPlant Enterprise engineering software suite, SmartPlant
3D Materials Handling Edition, to automate the design and
modeling of bulk materials handling systems for the mining,
port, power, pulp and paper industries.
The ARC Advisory Group in its
PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through
2013 ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall worldwide leader in
engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools
(PET) and for key industries, including metals and mining.
A next-generation,
data-centric, rule-driven solution, SmartPlant 3D Materials
Handling Edition automates the design of conveyor systems
and transfer chutes to enable bulk materials industries to
rapidly and easily create or expand facilities.
The difficulty in quickly
designing and modeling bulk materials handling systems in
mining and other conveyor-intensive industries is a
significant bottleneck to timely project completion and can
greatly affect an owner’s ability to serve a market in time.
These systems require considerable modifications due to the
design complexity required to satisfy an owner’s
requirements.
SmartPlant 3D Materials
Handling Edition automates much of the design process,
allowing changes to be completed faster with detailed
fabrication-level deliverables, reducing the need for
third-party software. Faster completion of projects directly
relates to a reduction of man-hours required to achieve
system options and to lower project costs and increase
overall revenue. Also enhancing the ability to reduce
capital expenditure (CAPEX) cost is the opportunity to
design and model sections of the system once, save them to a
catalog and reuse the design in future projects.
“The solution created by
Intergraph is truly cutting-edge for the bulk materials
handling industry,” said Jeff Lawrence, Proposals and
Systems Development manager at UGL Resources. “We expect
this technology to revolutionize the work processes and
methods used to design, fabricate, construct and commission
materials handling systems. This is the new industry
standard approach for bulk materials handling systems.”
Sid Snitkin, Ph.D., vice
president and general manager, Enterprise Advisory Services
with the ARC Advisory Group, said, “I don’t see anyone
addressing the mining industry like Intergraph – a product
like this shows great promise for the future. Intergraph has
capitalized on its process engineering tools strengths to
create this application. And they have done it in a way that
fits this industry very well.”
As part of Intergraph’s
SmartPlant Enterprise suite of products, SmartPlant 3D
Materials Handling Edition provides the capabilities needed
to design a bulk handling system and keep it as-built
throughout its life cycle. It offers piping, HVAC,
electrical raceway, structural, platework and mechanical
equipment modeling tasks, as well as a specification and
catalog manager and a project administration environment.

Dr. E. Neil Lewis wins ACS
Anachem Award
Malvern,
UK -- Malvern Instruments’ Technical Director, Dr. E. Neil
Lewis is to be presented with the prestigious Anachem Award
by the Detroit Section of the American Chemical Society
(ACS) at this year’s Federation of Analytical Chemistry and
Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) conference (October 18 - 22,
2009, Louisville, KY). Established in 1953, the Anachem
Award is presented annually to an outstanding analytical
chemist based on activities in teaching, research,
administration or other activity which has advanced the art
and science of the field.
Paul
Walker, Managing Director of Malvern Instruments said, “We
are very proud that the ACS has recognized Neil Lewis’s
achievements as an analytical chemist. In the 56 years since
its inception only two other people from instrument
companies have received the Anachem Award. Innovation in
instrument development and analytical techniques is
essential to the advancement of science and Neil’s
contributions to the field of chemical imaging have indeed
been outstanding.”
Dr.
Lewis, who was appointed to the Board of Malvern Instruments
Ltd. in 2008 becoming Technical Director for the company, is
recognized as one of the founders of modern near infrared
chemical imaging (NIRCI) systems. Having co-authored the
publication of a novel, solid state approach to chemical
imaging in 1992, he has been at the forefront of system
development ever since. His achievements in the field are
exemplified by the outstanding performance and increasing
application of Malvern’s SyNIRgi system.

Vibrator "Dribble Chute"
minimizes carryback
Peru,
IL -- A belt conveying system often requires the cleaning of
material from the belt. It is common to use a “dribble
chute” to direct material caught by the secondary belt
cleaner back onto the flow of material to minimize
“carryback”. Minimizing carryback improves productivity,
lowers cost and aids in the efficient operation of a
transfer point. Cougar Industries, Inc. is pleased to
announce the availability of its Dribble Chute Vibrator
Application effective immediately!
The Cougar Dribble Chute Vibrator
Application provides for a choice of electric vibrators and
includes the vibrator, dribble chute mounting bracket with
isolators, and brackets for attachment to the inside dribble
sheet.
Unique to the Cougar system is
the positive attachment of the mounting bracket isolators to
the user provided angle mounting on the back of the external
dribble sheet. This securely attaches the vibrator mounting
and provides for a longer life than competitive systems that
simply “hang” the vibrator bracket from the dribble sheet
cutout lip.
The Cougar Dribble Chute
Application uses Cougar’s most rugged line of electric
vibrators, the B-Series, and the system includes the
vibrator, mounting assembly and horizontal welding bracket.
In addition, optional items available include a timer
control.

Richwood's new heavy-duty
"Impact Idler"
Huntington,
WV -- Finally, an impact idler has been designed that can
maintain superior operating performance in any field
condition while protecting your conveyor belt. The
incomparable durability of Cushion Arc® Impact Idlers is
obvious in each of its high quality, heavy duty components.
The Cushion Arc Impact Idler from
Richwood is designed to provide true arc impact protection
in an exceptionally heavy duty idler. The unitized frame is
built to withstand extreme operating conditions.
Cushion Arc’s multiple rollers
provide smooth, full belt width radius support trough
transitions that protect the belt from damage, unlike the
sharp junction points found in conventional idlers.
The Roller Segment – Each Cushion
Arc Idler has 5-9 individual rollers. These are impact
resistant 6" diameter R2000 rubber molded over a 2 ¾"
diameter steel shell. Each roller uses permanently sealed 1
¼" ball bearings on the solid steel shaft to complete the
assembly.
The Roller Frame – Offers
independent support for each impact roller on the main idler
frame for simple installation. As shown here, the roller
T-frame quickly slides on and off from the side of the
conveyor for change out of individual rollers.
The Unitized Steel Support Frame
– provides unsurpassed durability in any application. The
entire unit can be installed with the belt in place.
Available for all belt widths and
any support profile. The Cushion Arc provides maximum
belt protection in your impact zones.
For maintenance when needed,
Cushion Arc rollers can be easily replaced from the side of
the belt by simply sliding each roller off its support frame
and sliding on the new.
Only Richwood offers impact idler
options with this kind of durability. Cushion Arc is
available in all belt widths and degrees of trough angle.
